Handling

Any handling, transportation and storage of the pipes and fittings must be done in consideration to the properties of the different materials and current external conditions, in order to avoid the components being subjected to harmful impacts and in order to avoid impurities etc. in pipes and fittings. Adequately wide straps, according to the dimension in question, should be used as lifting tools together with sufficiently wide supports. As a guideline straps must be at least 100 mm wide, and chains and wires must not be used. Damage to the PE casing pipe, for example notches and scratches, should be avoided. It is good practice to keep steel pipe ends sealed by means of end caps until welding is performed. The foam should not be exposed to water for long periods. Special measures must be taken at working temperatures lower than 0°C as regards handling of pipes and components and the cutting and removal of casing and foam insulation. Plastic materials become more rigid and more sensitive to maltreatment at low temperatures and this also applies to PE casing.

Storage

Durability and service life of pipes depends on the right way of storage. Components of system PIPECO must be stored in dry buildings and plastic materials should be protected against direct sunlight.

Storage of pipes and fittings
Pipes should be stored on the wooden raising piece of minimum height 150 mm from the ground because of the protection of the bottom parts of pipes from water.  The space between each wooden piece should be:

  • 10 % of the pipe length (the storage height 0,5 m)
  • 12 % of the pipe length (the storage height 1 m)
  • 15 % of the pipe length (the storage height 1,5 m)
  • 22 % of the pipe length (the storage height 2 m)

The other components should be stored on the wooden pallets at the dry place. When the temperature exceeds 30°C, the fittings have to be protected against the direct sun exposure. When customer needs to store the pipes and fittings for a long period of time, it is better to consult the storage conditions with the producer.

Storage of PUR foam material

The reactivity of PUR foam depends on the temperature. That is why the PUR foam is delivered in different mixtures (for hot and cold days), which assures the right homogenity and quality. The modification of PUR foam is written on the bottles. The right storage temperature is 20 - 24°C.

Storage of insulation components

Equipment needed for joints insulation is packed in a special box and has to be stored in the closed storage place until the beginning of the assembly. PUR segments and other insulation components have to be stored in the dry and dust free place. The shrinking sleeves have to be stored in the vertical position in order to avoid their deformation. The white protective foil, which covers the shrinking sleeves, cannot be removed and damaged. Shrinking foil and adhesive stripes have to be stored separately. Do not put anything on the top of them in order to avoid their deformation and sticking. The temperature cannot exceed 30°C.
